Investment Advisor Disclosures

Financial Alternatives, Inc. (“FAI”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is an SEC registered investment adviser located in La Jolla, California. FAI and its representatives are in compliance with the current filing requirements imposed upon registered investment advisers by those states in which we maintain clients. We may only transact business in those states in which it is registered, or qualifies for an exemption or exclusion from registration requirements.

This website provides general information about us and our service approach - with access to additional information and tools (e.g. appointment scheduling) - and is not intended to offer investment advisory services, financial planning, or advice.  The publication of our web site on the Internet should not be construed as our solicitation to effect securities transactions, or the offering of personalized advice over the Internet.  Any subsequent, non-administrative communication from us with a prospective client shall be conducted by a representative that is either registered or qualifies for an exemption or exclusion from registration in the state where the prospective client resides.  We provide personalized investment advisory service, financial advice, and/or financial planning only within the context of contractual agreements with clients, and only after a review of the client’s situation.  A copy of our current written disclosures discussing our business operations, services, and fees is available upon written request and online on this website (link button above).

No client or prospective client should assume that the publication of investment positions, strategies and/or recommendations as well as the access and use of any financial calculator or online tool serves as the receipt of, or a substitute for, personalized advice from us, or from any other investment professional. We are neither attorneys nor accountants, and no portion of our web site content should be interpreted as legal, accounting or tax advice.

We do not make any representations or warranties as to the accuracy, timeliness, suitability, completeness, or relevance of any information presented by us or prepared by any unaffiliated third party, whether linked to our web site or incorporated herein, and takes no responsibility therefore. We are under no obligation to update content.  All information is provided solely for convenience purposes only and all users thereof should be guided accordingly.

Past performance may not be indicative of future results.  Therefore, no current or prospective client should assume that future performance of any specific investment, investment strategy (including the investments and/or investment strategies recommended or undertaken by FAI) or product made reference to directly or indirectly on our web site, indirectly via a link to an unaffiliated third party web site, or other publication, will be profitable or equal the corresponding indicated performance level(s).  Different types of investments involve varying degrees of risk, and there can be no assurance that any specific investment will either be suitable or profitable for a client or prospective client’s investment portfolio.

Historical performance results for investment indexes and/or categories generally do not reflect the deduction of transaction and/or custodial charges or the deduction of an investment management fee, the incurrence of which would have the effect of decreasing historical performance results.

With regard to publication or ranking of FAI or its representatives by another organization, it should be understood that: (1) it should not be construed by any existing or prospective client as a guarantee that they will experience a certain level of results if they engage or continue to engage services; (2) it should not be construed as a current or past endorsement of FAI or its representatives by any of its clients; and (3) lists or rankings published by magazines and other sources are generally based exclusively on information prepared and submitted by us.

Use

Each client and prospective client agrees, as a condition precedent to his/her/its access to or use of our web site, to release and hold harmless FAI, its officers, directors, owners, employees and agents from any and all adverse consequences resulting from any of his/her/its actions and/or omissions which are independent of his/her/its receipt of personalized individual advice from us.

Privacy

We are committed to maintaining the confidentiality, integrity and security of the personal information that is entrusted to us.

The categories of nonpublic information that we collect from clients may include information about their personal finances, information about their health to the extent that it is needed for the financial planning process, information about transactions between clients and third parties, and information from consumer reporting agencies, etc.  We use this information to help clients meet their personal financial goals.

We may disclose information to effect transactions directed by clients, to protect against fraud, or to comply with requests from law enforcement, securities regulators, etc.  We do not provide client personal information to mailing list vendors or solicitors. 

FAI maintains a secure office to ensure that client information is not placed at unreasonable risk.  We employ a firewall barrier, secure data encryption techniques and authentication procedures in our computer environment.  We require strict confidentiality in our agreements with non-affiliated companies that require access to client personal information, including financial service companies, consultants, and auditors.

Personally identifiable information about clients will be maintained while clients have a current agreement, and for an indefinite period thereafter that is no less than the period required to be maintained by federal and state securities laws.  After that time, information may be destroyed.

Some pages within our website are password-protected and are intended only to allow authorized user access.  It should be understood that our website does not provide the ability to direct account transactions (e.g. place trade orders, make withdrawals), except through certain linked third party websites. 

Cookies and Similar Technology

Our website and our third-party vendors use cookies and similar usage tracking technologies. Cookies – small files saved to your device/browser – are used to understand how you use the site and determine ways to improve your experience. Other reasons for these tracking technologies include features and experience testing, information/calendar requests, email subscriptions, and social media connections.
